Introduction ======================= NOTE: This guide contains spoilers, even in the introduction, so read this with care and don't say I didn't warn you. Skies of Arcadia Legends is the remake of the classic Dreamcast RPG Skies of Arcadia. If you never played this game or, god forbid, never owned a Dreamcast this game is a must buy, if you played the original this game is still a worthy pick-up. The story revolves around a character named Vyse, a member of the Air Pirate faction known as the Blue Rogues, he and his friend Aika are always together, looting ships and exploring dungeons. The story takes off when the two meet a girl named Fina who is from a different civilization and needs to recover the Moonstones to protect the world from Valua's plan to take over the world. The group must then set out on a journey during which, they encounter adventure, new friends and many enemies on their journey to gather the legendary stones from their keepers around the Arcadia. You start the game with only 2, Red and Green, and you gain more as you progress through the game. You should try to have a different colour on each of your characters at all times this will help you learn magic faster. Here's how you gain Magic Points after a battle. At the beginning of the game, you have to characters and two enchantment colours so it's easy to balance it out. After your first battle against two Soldiers, you receive 1 Magic Point (MP). Now watch as your skill level increases, the person with Green equipped received two points in that field, while they received only one in the Red field, this is opposite for the character with Red equipped. So as you see, you double the MP for the colour you have equipped and you receive the base number for the colour the other character(s) have equipped. As you get a "Rank Up" you learn new Spells, each colour usually has some attack spells and some aid spells, this is how you learn them. Rank 1: Level 1 Attack Spell Rank 2: Level 1 Aid Spell Rank 3: Level 2 Attack Spell Rank 4: Level 2 Aid Spell Rank 5: Level 3 Attack Spell Rank 6: Level 3 Aid Spell This is the opposite for Green and Silver. Remember that these colours work in the same that elements do, each is strong against some and weak against others. Green does Extra damage to Purple and less to Red and Blue. Red does Extra damage to Green, Purple and Blue and less to Red and Yellow Purple does Extra damage to Red and less to Green, Purple and Blue Blue does Extra damage to Red and less to Green and Purple Yellow does Extra damage to Green, Blue and Silver and less to Yellow Silver does Extra damage to Yellow and remains the same against the rest. Now for what element each colour represents: Red - Flame Blue - Wind Yellow - Lightning Green - Life Force Purple - Ice Silver - Power of Void ==================== 4.1.2 - The SP Gauge ==================== The SP Gauge is at the top of your screen at all times during the battle, SP is required to use your S. Moves and magic. You start out each battle with a portion of the whole gauge filled; this number is the same number that your SP goes up by each turn. Ie. If you start a battle with 4 SP in your gauge and don't use S. Moves, magic or Focus in this turn you will have 8 SP at the beginning of the next turn. When you use the Focus command your SP will go up by a certain number depending on the level of your characters. If your character is fatigued his/her SP bonus won't be added at the beginning of a round. ================ 4.1.3 - S. Moves ================ S. Moves are either attacks, defense moves or some skills that will increase certain stats on your characters. To learn new S. Moves you need Moonberries, which you can find in chests, by defeating bosses, and sometimes, Loopers leave them behind. ====================== 4.1.4 - Status Effects ====================== ========================== 4.1.4.1 - Negative Effects ========================== Poison - Causes damage to inflicted character at the end of each round - Signified by a skull Silence - Prevents a character from using Magic and S. Moves - Signified by a red "X" Fatigue - Prevents a character from using the Focus command - Characters SP bonus is not added at the beginning of a new round - Signified by a sweat drop Confusion - Cannot control inflicted character - Character may attack enemies or allies - Signified by a green swirl Sleep - Cannot use commands until character wakes up - Signified by two blue "Z"s Weak - Lowers all abilities of a character (temporary) - Signified by an arrow pointing down Stone - Cannot use commands until character is cured - Signified by a small stone man Unconscious - Cannot use commands until resurrected - Signified by a brown coffin All of these status effects can be cured by a Curia Crystal or the spell Curia except for Unconscious, which has to be cured by a Risan or Riselem Crystal, or the spells Risan or Riselem. ========================== 4.1.4.2 - Positive Effects ========================== Strengthen - Raises a characters attack and defense abilities - Signified by a red arrow pointing up Quicken - Raises Quickness stat - Signified by a blue arrow pointing up Regenerate - Regain some HP at the end of a round - Signified by a green cross ================== 4.2 - Ship Battles ================== Ship battles are fought against other ships and large creatures. ================== 4.2.1 - The Basics ================== When you first enter a ship battle you will notice a grid near the top, the 3x3 space is where you can enter commands and next to it is another grid, this one is blocked off, previewing the next round. You have the same basic commands as Character Battles, Attack, Guard, Focus, Magic, Item and S. Move (becomes accessible later). When you select a command you must choose where to place it on the grid, this can turn into a very strategic game. You can also use magic in Ship Battles and it works just about the same way as in Character Battles. ========================= 4.2.2 - Column Variations ========================= There 3 different colours you can have, they are Green, Yellow, and Red. Make sure to always Defend on Red and if you have low health left, defend on Yellow also. Each colour can also have a "C" over it, which means you will do extra damage if you use a weapon in that turn. Be careful of Red columns that also have a "C" in them since you can do extra damage if you want but you will also take damage from the enemy ship at a larger amount. There is also the S. Cannon column. ================= 4.2.3 - S. Cannon ================= S. Cannons function a bit differently in Ship Battles than S. Moves do in Character Battles. First of all, you can only use the S. Cannon when the column has the right symbol above and when you have enough SP, but they are very powerful and well worth building up the required SP. ====================== Section 5 - Characters ====================== ============================ 5.1 Air Pirates (And others) ============================ 5.1.1 Vyse - The Protagonist Vyse is the son of Air Pirate Dyne who is the leader of the Blue Rogues, Vyse is always striving to impress his father but he can never seem to do the right thing. You soon see that a Valuan ship piloted by Alfonso, an admiral for the Imperial Armada, is following this girl. Alfonso fires some concussion shells at the ship and begins to take it aboard; out of nowhere a blast rocks the ship, one of the soldiers notices a ship flying an Air Pirate flag hiding in the clouds. The ship pulls up alongside the Valuan ship and hooks onto it. You are now introduced to Vyse, the protagonist of the game, who rides one of the ropes onto the deck, he confronts some Valuan soldiers and soon Aika, Vyse's best friend, joins him on deck. After some short dialogue you are engaged in battle against a couple easy opponents. After the battle more soldiers join the others on the deck, you are outnumbered but Vyse's father, Dyne, comes to the rescue. At this point Vyse and Aika head for the bridge of the ship to try and shut down the engine. ======================================================= 6.1 Valuan Battle Ship Items: x3 Sacri Crystal, x2 Magic Droplet Gold: 50 Enemies: Soldier, Guard Boss: Antonio ======================================================= Grab the chest and then go through the door, follow the path forward until a cut-scene begins, you'll see Alfonso with his Vice Captain and that mysterious girl. After some dialogue Alfonso commands some 4 guards to attack you. After the battle head left and grab the chest then go up the stairs on the opposite side of the room, on top of the stairs turn left, right and encounter Alfonso again, he takes off running. After this head right and grab the chest at the end, follow Alfonso into the next room. Save your game if you'd like and get the chest try the big door in front of you and you'll find out it's locked, on top of that Alfonso taunts you, head down the passage to your left and go through the door at the end. You'll now be on the side of the ship, go down the ladder and through the door, witness Alfonso betraying his own Vice Captain to save his precious reputation. After you a short verbal battle, Alfonso summons his own "personal war beast" to attack you. Boss: Antonio HP: 500 Attacks: Basic Attack, Thunder of Fury Reward(s): x1 Moonberry At this point in the game, the boss battles consist of a basic pattern of attack, heal, S-Move. I beat this battle with little effort at level 2 and you should be at that level, if not level 3. Heal when your HP gets below half and watch out for his Thunder of Fury attack as it can hit one or both of your characters depending on where they are standing. When your SP gauge gets to at least 7 use Vyse's Cutlass Fury attack. Now just attack, heal and build up the SP bar and you'll be fine. After the battle Vyse and Aika go to check on the girl, and you see a short cryptic sequence about a Moon Elder named Rami and someone named Fina...hmmm. You then see the girl wake up in the Blue Rogues airship, The Albatross, during some dialogue you learn the girl is named Fina. Swashbuckler Choice: "That's a great name!" Soon Dyne will tell Vyse and Aika to head up to the bridge, head out of this room and turn left then go up the ladder, talk to Dyne then to the person driving the airship, he will let you drive to Pirate's Isle. ========= Mid Ocean ========= Head forward and watch your compass, it will start to spin out of control, press A. You have just found your first Discovery, Dyne will tell you a bit of info about these. Keep heading forward until you see a town on a island, you'll see a cut-scene of the docking procedure and see the bounty you have collected, Vyse and Aika tell Fina a little bit of info about the island, then Dyne calls you up to the office, and he wants to talk to Fina. ================= 6.2 Pirate's Isle Items: x6 Sacri Crystal, x2 Magic Droplet, x1 Moonberry Gold: 150 ================= Head left and up the ramp, you can go into this door if you want but it's nothing important but Fina learns some more knowledge about this world. Keep heading right and go up this ramp, there's a door on this level, which is the weapons, armour and item shop, don't but anything yet, you'll have time later. Keep heading left and go up the ladder, on this level go to the farthest door and some dialogue will start, Dyne begins to question Fina. Swashbuckler Choice: "Sit quietly and listen." Dyne wants to know what Fina is doing here but she can't tell him, apparently something uber important though, Dyne trust Fina and tells Vyse and Aika to show Fina around some more. Head out the door across the catwalk near Dyne's office, now you'll be topside, Aika has to go home and check on things so take Fina around. The house you start near has a turnip garden on the opposite side, go through the gate and grab the chest hidden in the corner. To the left of Vyse's house there is a stone plaque, examine it and you'll appear high above the hideout, grab the chest here and head back out. At this point you can play a hide & Seek game with the kids of the village. Talk to Jimmy (the one in red and yellow) to begin, try and find them on your own but here are their locations: Jimmy: He is behind a clothesline near the dojo Lindsi: In a little alleyway to the left of your house (near the stone plaque where you got the Moonberry) Alan: He is behind Aika's house (the one with the locked door) Pow: Some crates on the right of your house hide the dog. After the game Jimmy will tell you a secret about the bookshelf in Dyne's office, go back down there and examine it to find a passage to a ladder, head down and get a chest. Now go to Vyse's house, go inside and talk to your mother, dinner isn't ready yet but Aika will come back and tell you that the sun is setting. Go up the ramp in front of the door and go up the ladder, at the top a cut scene will start. Vyse will start talking about his dream of sailing beyond the sunset and even beyond the skies to see new worlds. Soon the three will see Moonstones falling from the sky, one hits an island in the distance, and you are informed that this is Shrine Island, your next destination. In the morning, head down the ladder and go outside, Dyne stops you and gives you your share of the loot, the Purple Moon Crystal, now meet Aika. If you haven't equipped yourself yet, do so now, you'll need it. If you want to, before you leave you can visit the Dojo to learn more about the battle system, it is located near were the kids are playing. Head up the ramp outside your house and grab the chest up on Lookout Island, go back down the ladder and head left to find your ship at the top. Grab the chest and then board your small ship and start heading north. At this point you'll probably encounter some Loopers, these guys are pesky little buggers that you can encounter just about anywhere in the game, they have great evade and run at any chance they get. If you are lucky enough to defeat one you might get a Moonberry, so start most battles by trying to defeat it. Soon enough you'll reach Shrine Island. ======================================================= 6.3 Shrine Island Items: x1 Moonberry, x4 Sacri Crystal Gold: none Enemies: Marocca, Looper, Seeker, Flestik, Grouder Boss: Sentinel ======================================================= Save your game if you want, I recommend it, and head towards the entrance. When you enter you'll see water pouring into the center of the Shrine and the Moon Crystal completely submerged, Vyse decides to try to drain the water by opening the doors from the outside. Head right and follow the straightforward path until you're above where you entered, go through the door. Touch the floating crystal and the whole Shrine will start to sink. Head right and open the chest. Go back through the door and follow the path back to where you originally started, go through the door. You'll be outside the actual island, follow the path and go down the ladder, follow another path, open the door at the end and water floods out, go through that door. Turn left and you will find a door, go out and follow the path to grab the chest. Head back inside and go right from the door you initially entered this area with, go up the stairs and get the chest and head out the door, go up the ladder and follow the path until you get to a large door. Save and heal now, also make sure Aika has her Alpha Storm S- Move, it will make her much more useful in this battle. Open the door and you'll walk inside and see the Moon Crystal, Aika will notice some stones moving, you seem to have awoken a security device from the Old World. Boss: Sentinel HP: 1150 Attacks: Basic Attack, Target Search, Blaster Reward(s): x1 Moonberry Again, at this point in the game you don't have too many skills so attack, heal, S. Move. But watch out, almost each time you attack, it will counter attack. The boss will use a targeting move from time to time, after this make both your characters defend, this attack causes major damage focused in a straight line, meaning it could hit both or just one character. This Blaster attack can cause around 300 damage if you do not defend. Heal when your HP gets below 400 and then just unleash your S. Moves when the bar is filled up enough. You will have him down in no time. You can now carry the Moonstone out of the Shrine. ============== Valua Attacks! ============== You will now see a cut-scene of Ben the Lookout doing his morning stretches, during which he sees the Valuan Imperial Armada bearing down on Pirate's Isle. The armada begins firing and Dyne commands that everyone head into the hideout. Dyne then notices the flag on the lead ship, it's Galcian's flagship. You will see a cut-scene with Galcian and his vice captain Ramirez. Galcian shows off his ruthless ways in this scene but he seems very bent on taking Fina in alive. The scene flashes back to Vyse and Aika, head towards your ship, save if you would like. Board your ship and head south to Pirate's Isle, dock and witness what destruction the Imperial Armada has unleashed on the unsuspecting people. Head into the hideout and head into Dyne's office to talk with your mother, she will inform you that the Armada took everyone captive, including Fina. Aika realizes that the punishment for Piracy in Valua is death; you must save your friends so make a decision Swashbuckler Choice: "Try and save everybody!" You will now see a scene with Galcian onboard his Flagship, the Serpent, he confronts Fina and you learn that In the morning head north past Shrine Island until Aika comments about the amount of fog around you. You will now see an odd shape coming from underneath the clouds, Vyse says that it is an Arcwhale; you have to make a choice now Swashbuckler Choice: "Retreat!" But it is of no use; the Arcwhale sees the ship and blows it away. Vyse will be woken up by a gruff looking old captain, he will tell Vyse that he has been after the whale, Rhaknam, and that because the ship got in the way he had to give up on this chance. He puts you both to work on the ship, go down the stairs and pick up the first box, he will begin to take a shine to Vyse and ask him why he want to go to Valua, Vyse explains and then asks the captain why he is searching for Rhaknam, the captain quickly turns the cold shoulder and tells Vyse to go get the other box. Go get the second box and he will allow you to fly the ship as a bonus he tells you his name and the name of the ship, he is Drachma and you are riding the Little Jack. Head forward and drop down and through the little passage. When you emerge from the passage a medical ship will stop you and take you onboard. You will now meet Doc and a little girl named Maria who is holding a strange bird; Doc will give you a Moon Lens and will ask you to find Moonfish to feed to the bird. To capture Moonfish wander around isolated areas in towns or dungeons and listen for the chime, when it gets intense press Y to go into first-person view and look around for a small flying fish-like creature, press A when it is in your sights to pull it in. Next, head northeast past Sailor's Island until you spot a small island, get close to it and your compass will spin, you have found the Guidestones. Now dock at Sailor's Island. =================== 6.4 Sailor's Island Items: x3 Repair Kit Gold: none Moonfish: 2 =================== Drachma will head into the tavern and tell you he is planning on leaving you behind to find your own way to Valua. Head to the Sailor's Guild on your right and talk to the Guildmaster and sell your information on the Sailor's Grave and Guidestones discoveries that you found earlier, look on the bounty list and get information on Baltor. Head to the side of the Guild and find a chest near the fence, make a special not to get this, it will be useful very soon. Next head to the side of the building Drachma entered and search around for a Moonfish. Now go to the main part of the island and enter the Ship Equipment Shop, talk to the shop owner to find out about the Harpoon Cannon that is in Valua, this might be what Drachma needs. Go into the inn, rest and save if you need too and go upstairs, go out onto the balcony and stand behind the girl, look for a Moonfish. Head to the weapons shop across from the inn to buy some more equipment, and then return to the tavern to tell Drachma about the information you got from the Ship Equipment shop owner. Swashbuckler Choice: "Beat around the bush." He won't believe you at first but Polly talks him into going to Valua with you, now all you need is a passport. Head back to the Sailor's Guild and ask the Guildmaster how long it would take to get a passport. This is obviously far to long for you to wait. But he seems very reluctant to forge one for you. Just when things look their worst a merchant from the desert capital of Nasr asks you to escort him home, in exchange you will receive a Valuan passport. Swashbuckler Choice: "We accept your offer!" Head back to your ship and go east along the rock wall until you confront Baltor. He will engage you in battle. Ship Battle: Baltor's ship, the Blackbeard HP: 10500 Attacks: Black Cannon This is your first ship battle; Drachma will give you a short rundown on the basics. In the first round attack with your Main Cannon on one turn then either guard or Focus with the other two. In the second round you'll notice a column with a "C" above it and another that's in yellow. If you took too much damage last round Repair in the first turn, Attack in the "C" column and defend in the yellow. The third round should be the last if you make the right choice, when prompted make sure you choose to maneuver behind the Blackbeard, this will allow you to have 3 "C" turns.
